Did you know that you hold the key to wellness in your blood? It’s as simple as A, B, O, AB!

In studying over 100 different dietary theories in preparation for practicing as a Certified Holistic Health Coach, one theory resonated with me over all of the others. Our blood type is the key ingredient to a healthy recipe for health and wellness, emotional healthiness, longevity, and physical endurance, sustainability, and exuberance. It determines what foods you can assimilate, the best vitamins and supplements, the best exercise for you, and what illnesses/diseases, you are susceptible to developing. Your blood type is also a determining factor in how you metabolize your foods, the degree of energy you hold, and how you navigate through stressful situations. Blood is the underlying source of nourishment, so it made perfect sense to me that put together with the food that we eat, it could be a path to total health and wellness.

When we eat foods that are incompatible with our blood type, it causes a chemical reaction between our blood and the food that we eat, thus causing dis-ease. This reaction is part of our genetic makeup, and is scientifcally proven that our immune and digestive systems favor foods that our blood type ancestors ate which is proven through a factor called lectins. Lectins, which are proteins found in foods that are so diverse and rich, have something called agglutinating properties which influence your blood! Lectins are organisms that attach to other organisms in our food, and so when we eat a food that has protein lectins that are incompatible with our blood type antigen, the lectins attack an organ, or organs, and begin to agglutinate (literally mean gluing) blood cells causing dis-ease.

According to Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo, “Many food lectins have characteristics that are close enough to a certain blood type antigen to make it an “enemy” to another. For example, milk has B-like qualities; if a person with Type A blood drinks it, his system will immediately start the agglutination process in order to reject it. Here’s an example of how a lectin agglutinates in the body. Let’s say Type A person eats a plate of lima beans. The lima beans are digested in the stomach through the process of acid hydrolysis. However, the lectin protein is resistant to acid hydrolysis. It doesn’t get digested, but stays intact. It may interact directly with the lining of the stomach or intestinal tract, or it may get absorbed into your bloodstream along with the digested lima bean nutrients. Different lectins target different organs and body systems.

Once the intact lectin protein settles someplace in your body, it literally has a magnetic effect on the cells in that region. It clumps the cells together and they are targeted for destruction as if they too were foreign invaders. This clumping can cause irritable bowel syndrome in the intestines or cirrhosis in the liver, or block the flow of blood through the kidneys-to name just a few of the effects.”

It is vital to steer clear of the lectins that agglutinate YOUR specific cells that are dictated by your blood type. For instance, gluten, which is the most common lectin found in wheat and many other grains, sticks to the lining of your small intestine, causing a considerable amount of inflammation, distress, and painful irritation in some blood types, most definitely in type O.

I believe so strongly in the Blood Type Diet theory, that not only do I live by this theory, I have created specific meal plans based on each individual blood type. My son has entrusted me with helping him to achieve his own harmonious health 4 life, and I have created a specific meal plan based on his blood type as well. However, my son, and I, both struggle with challenges from digestive disorders, so for us I have created a meal plan based not only on our blood type, but I have cross referenced our meal plans with the FODMAP diet plan which research shows can improve symptoms of IBS. (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

Each blood type thrives on a different type of diet including protein, carbs, and fats.I have found a wide variety of foods that are compatible for each blood type, so there is no denying yourself healthy and delicious meals, snacks, and beverages. In addition, I can offer you suggestions for the best type of exercise regimen for your specific blood type!

If you are looking for a healthy, sustainable lifestyle that will be easy to implement, the Blood Type Diet is easily adaptable. I began using this diet and within one week, I noticed a marked improvement in my IBS symptoms, joint pain, weight loss, and an increase in my energy level!
