Releasing Emotions for Wellness – Love, Wendy

In my experience, one of the first things traditional therapists want to do when you present with symptoms of sadness, not depression, and anxiety is tell you that you need to be on medication.

I disagree, and disapprove of this mindset because taking a pill is not going to change the given circumstances or the way that I feel. And, I have the right to feel however I feel.

The healthy solution, in my lived experience, and in my professional experience, is allowing the patient or client to speak their truth in a non-judgmental, safe space, and for the practitioner to support them by asking the patient/client what they feel the need to heal…using an integrative approach, body, mind and spirit. Then we offer support, ongoing.

Perhaps the patient/client will “know” or “feel” that they need medication, and that’s wonderful insight into what they need at this time. And, we meet all persons where they are.

In addition, if the patient/client decides at any time that they would like to also implement healthy self care practices that resonate with them to aid in healing, we meet them where they are, and guide them from there.

Whether we are a doctor, therapist, specialist, psychiatrist, or coach, we do not “know” what someone else needs…we only have the opportunity to guide them, when asked, in their best interest in reaching their health and wellness goals.

When we come from a place of humility in a mindset of “let’s work together,” including asking for spiritual support and guidance, we are serving others in their highest blessings. It is the patient/client that is in the driver’s seat.

Every morning in prayer, I ask Sprit to “show me where to go, who to see, what to say, and to whom to help another soul,” and then in meditation, I hear beyond my physical limitations the answer and guidance that I am seeking.

Why would we want to suppress our emotions, no matter what we are feeling, rather than process, accept and release? Here is the space of wellness!
